Ontario HST Rebates Boost New Home Sales

Ontario’s recent temporary HST relief has sparked important conversations around affordability and new home sales. From my experience working with buyers and sellers across the GTA, I’ve seen firsthand how taxes, fees, and levies can weigh heavily on both clients and builders. Industry voices are highlighting that while the short-term HST reduction offered a glimpse of support, rollout delays and ongoing hurdles—like rising material and labour costs, slow approvals, and ever-changing regulations—meant the impact was limited, especially for highrise condo projects that require longer timelines to complete. The consensus is that lasting improvements in affordability and housing supply will likely depend on permanent HST relief, with the goal of making progress toward Ontario’s target of 1.5 million new homes by 2031. Navigating these complexities is part of what I do every day to help my clients make confident, informed real estate decisions in a fast-evolving market.
